To split a payment, attach a sub-account or a sub-account group when you create the Payment Intent. The split happens automatically when the customer pays.

Split with one sub-account

The sub-account’s percentage decides its share.

Split with a group

Each member gets the percentage set for it in the group.
If you pass both, the group wins and sub_account is ignored.

What each party receives

Shares are calculated on what you receive from the payment: after Modem Pay’s fee if your business pays it, or the full amount if the customer pays it. Shares are rounded to the nearest whole GMD, with at least 1 GMD each. Example: a 1,000 GMD payment, your business pays a 20 GMD fee, so you receive 980 GMD.

Before you create the intent

The sub-account or group must:
  • Exist and be active
  • Belong to the same business and account as your API key
  • Be in the same mode as your key (test with test, live with live)
If not, the intent is rejected with 400 and no payment is started. The payment intent and the transaction both show the sub_account or sub_account_group that was used, so you can match payments to splits in your own records.
